Odell Beckham Jr. was named to the Pro Bowl on Tuesday night for the third time in as many seasons in the league, and will be joined by three teammates who received the honor for the first time in their careers — cornerback Janoris Jenkins, safety Landon Collins and special teamer Dwayne Harris.
The Pro Bowl will be played Jan. 29 in Orlando, and will return to the traditional AFC versus NFC format after three years of teams being selected by captains.
“It is exciting,” Beckham said. “It is cool to be on a team with multiple Pro Bowlers, so it is a huge accomplishment for myself and my teammates.”
Beckham, who is tied for third in NFL with 85 receptions and 10 touchdowns, and ranks fourth with 1,173 yards, became the first Giants player to reach three straight Pro Bowls since Chris Snee (2008-10), and the first Giants receiver to do so since Del Shofner (1961-63).
Following a 2015 season in which the Giants had the worst-ranked pass defense in the league, the team’s secondary earned two invitations to the Pro Bowl for the first since 1963 (Erich Barnes, Dick Lynch).
In Collins’ second season, he became the first safety in the league in 16 years with more than 100 tackles, five interceptions and three sacks, while Jenkins has three interceptions and is tied with a team-high 17 passes defended.
“It took me awhile to get here,” said Jenkins, who spent his previous four seasons with the Rams. “The Pro Bowl was a goal of mine coming in. … I thought one day [it would happen]. I didn’t know what day it was going to be. I am glad that it finally came, and I am truly blessed.”
Harris’ selection was the biggest surprise, with the 29-year-old bothered by injuries and having not returned a kickoff or punt for a touchdown this season. Harris ranks sixth in the league in kick-return average (24.9 yards) and 20th in punt returns (6.3 yards).
