The death of a 21-year-old man who was brutally beaten in a Queens park last spring has been ruled a homicide, officials said.
The Medical Examiner’s office said Thursday that Jean Pierre Villanueva, 21, died of complications from blunt force impact to the head caused by the June 15 assault, which left him hooked to a ventilator for several months until he passed away on Sept. 30, the blog A Walk in the Park first reported.
Villanueva was in College Point Park when he got into a fight with with another man who punched him in the face near the handball courts, cops said.
The young man fell to the ground and struck his head on the pavement, leaving him brain dead.
Villanueva remained on life support for nearly three month until his death.
Police said they have identified a person of interest in the case that they are looking to question. That person’s name was not released.
