A federal judge tossed a lawsuit Thursday filed by Bronx residents who sued Gov. Cuomo and two judges, claiming their right to a speedy trial was violated because the court system is too slow.
The suit, filed in May, claimed that people charged with misdemeanors in the backlogged Bronx Criminal Court wait months for their cases to be heard, seriously impacting their day-to-day lives.
Manhattan federal court Judge George Daniels didn’t buy the four plaintiffs’ arguments, but said they could refile an amended suit.
Scott Levy, an attorney with The Bronx Defenders who repped the plaintiffs, said they are weighing their next steps.
