Michael Grimm wants to get his law license back

He’s a convicted felon and a disgraced politician, but Michael Grimm still thinks he deserves to get his law license back.

The ex-Staten Island congressman, who spent seven months behind bars for tax evasion, is asking an appeals court to turn his disbarment from the federal system into a one-year suspension instead.

Grimm, 46, claims in new court papers that his conviction isn’t as bad as others who have been suspended after doing far worse.

“Even where New York Courts have suspended attorneys for substantial periods of time, those cases involve more egregious and ongoing acts of misconduct, as opposed to Mr. Grimm’s isolated and singular conviction,” his attorney Annette Hasapidis said in the Manhattan federal court filing from earlier this month.

His Connecticut state license was suspended for two years and he is under interim suspension in New York. But the Grievance Committee of the Southern District of New York stripped Grimm of his license in the federal system.
