Police fatally shoot another armed Brooklyn man

An 18-year-old man who fired a gun into a Brooklyn lounge was shot and killed by police early Wednesday — less than six hours after another police-involved shooting in the borough, sources said.

Three anti-crime cops in plainclothes — including a sergeant — heard gunfire coming from the B-Hive Lounge at 990 Atlantic Ave. in Crown Heights about 3:40 a.m. and saw a man firing a weapon.

They got out of their car and identified themselves to the man, who then fled, police said.

No cops were injured.

Two of the officers opened fire when the man turned toward them with a .38-caliber revolver at 972 Atlantic Ave., striking him three times in the abdomen, sources said

The man — identified as Joshua Martino of Brooklyn — was pronounced dead at Brooklyn Hospital at 4 a.m.

The cops were taken to another hospital with tinnitus and trauma, sources said.

Police recovered a Smith & Wesson revolver at the scene, where several witnesses pointed out a woman who had been firing a gun inside the lounge. The woman was arrested at the scene, sources said.

The investigation shut down Atlantic Avenue in both directions.

A few hours earlier, a woman who lives at 967 E. 99th St. in Canarsie called police about an emotionally disturbed man.

Cops responding about 9:45 p.m. encountered James Owens, who retrieved a 13-inch kitchen knife from the back of the home and came toward them with the weapon.

One officer deployed a Taser on Owens, but could not subdue him. A second officer then fired three shots that hit Owens in the upper body.

He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he died. Police recovered the knife at the scene.

The two officers were not injured but were taken to Kings County Hospital as a precaution.
