WASHINGTON – Hillary Clinton may not have won the White House, but she earned rave Broadway reviews Sunday.
The former Secretary of State received several sustained standing ovations at the final performance of the musical “The Color Purple.”
She caught the matinée performance with her husband, Bill, and daughter Chelsea, as the crowd went wild for the former Democratic nominee.
Videos posted to social media show the crowd standing and roaring for the famous First Family as they entered the Bernard Jacobs Theatre.
“And @HillaryClinton brings down the house at @BwayColorPurple before it even starts,” tweeted attendee Logan Culwell-Block.
Clinton has kept a low profile since losing the presidential election to Donald Trump, while Big Apple politicos are hoping she’d revive her political career with a run for New York mayor.
“Intermission at @BwayColorPurple and there have been seven standing ovations, including the massive one for the Clintons,” tweeted another attendee Kevin Daly.
Her hero’s welcome was a far departure from Vice President’s Elect Mike Pence’s smattering of boos and lecture from the “Hamilton” cast during his Broadway visit last year.
After the show, the crowd let out cheers again for the Clintons when “The Color Purple” cast acknowledged their visit.
“There’s a lot of really famous awesome famous and notable people here today,” actress Patrice Covington, who gave the farewell speech on behalf of the cast after the show, told the audience, according to the New York Times. “I’m not going to call all of them out — I know you already know them,” she said while looking toward Clinton and waving –setting off more enthusiastic applause.
Clinton thanked her admirers by posing with some selfies at the theater.
“Look who I ran into at the #ClosingNight performance of #TheColorPurple,” posted one attendee with a close-up shot of Clinton, with one hashtag “#ImStillWithHer”
