The latest company to benefit from Donald Trump’s election: Airbnb.
The home-rental site said Friday that inauguration weekend has spurred more than 15,000 bookings in the Washington, DC area — an all-time weekend record there.
Airbnb said more than 13,000 guests have pounced on listings for Inauguration Day itself on Jan. 20, as Trump voters and protesters alike flock to the swearing in of the nation’s 45th president.
That’s 10 times the bookings Airbnb got for Inauguration Day in 2013, when President Obama was sworn in for his second term, and about 3,000 more bookings than the Silicon Valley firm had anticipated.
About 25 percent of hosts renting out their rooms and apartments for the first time, according to Airbnb.
In a Friday statement, Airbnb claimed next weekend’s bookings will bring more than $10 million in economic benefit to the nation’s capital, and its hosts will earn $5.9 million from inauguration reservations.
The top neighborhoods for bookings are Capitol Hill, Columbia Heights, the H Street Corridor, Shaw and Adams Morgan, according to Airbnb.
Top cities of origin for guests included New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Boston, Portland, Philadelphia and Oakland, Calif.
