“American Crime Story” found a breakout hit with O.J. Simpson. Now it’s turning to another 1990s scandal to provide it with more ratings gold, according to reports.
Producers for Fox 21 and FX Productions have optioned “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President,” Jeffery Toobin’s book on the Monica Lewinsky affair that rocked the Bill Clinton White House, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
The crime show’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” based on Toobin’s “The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson,” was a massive hit and garnered 10 Emmy awards.
The producers hope to do the same with the sex scandal involving the White House intern in the famous blue dress and its cast of memorable characters like Linda Tripp, Paul Jones and Kenneth Starr.
Producers are fast-tracking the project and have already begun casting for the Lewinsky and Tripp parts, said The Hollywood Reporter.
