Owner says 19-year-old pig deserves pardon from city ‘death sentence’

This piggy needs a pardon.

Emmett — who at age 19 is near the end of the usual life span of a potbellied pig — deserves a reprieve from the city-imposed death sentence hanging over his head, a Brooklyn woman says in court.

Kelli Miller sued to stave off the city’s attempts to send her sweet swine to the great sty in sky.

She has cared for Emmett since he was a 4-month-old piglet. Today Emmett is a geriatric porker who weighs in at 120 pounds.

“It is unreasonable to request removal when he [has] approximately six months to live,” Miller said last month in papers filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court.

The city Health Department said it is working with Miller and giving her “more time to comply with the law.” Miller says she will hold off on court action while the city seeks a resolution.

The city health code prohibits pigs from being kept as pets.
