New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie turned down an offer from President Trump to become labor secretary when his nominee to the post was in jeopardy, according to a report.
Trump made the offer over a meatloaf lunch at the White House on Feb. 14, the day before fast-food executive Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination amid waning support among Republican senators, Politico reported.
Christie, whose term as governor ends in January 2018, headed up Trump’s transition team until he was replaced in November by then-Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
Reports at the time said Trump was concerned about the lingering effects of the Bridgegate scandal on Christie.
The governor could be looking to join WFAN.
The sports talk radio station said Christie is a candidate to take over for host Mike Francesa when Francesa leaves at the end of the year, NJ.com reported.
Trump nominated Alexander Acosta, a former US attorney and former member of the National Labor Relations Board, as labor secretary on Feb. 16.
