White House adviser Kellyanne Conway advised college students on Thursday to get off social media like Twitter — a mainstay of President Trump’s messaging strategy.
“First of all, don’t live online, live in real time,” Conway said at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
“I’m astonished how many people live online,” she said, referring to how much time some web addicts spend on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites.
She didn’t mention the online habits of her boss — Trump — who has more than 20 million Twitter followers and sends tweets day and night.
“Remember, it’s a mode of communication. It is not communication — it’s not real life,” Conway said in answer to a question about how conservative college students can survive at liberal institutions.
She encouraged them to join clubs, start clubs, write letters to the editor and have conversations with real people.
“So step aside, make sure people see something other than the top of your head and live in real time in the real world — have a conversation with people,” she said.
A lineup of Trump administration officials and influential Republicans will also speak — including chief of staff Reince Priebus, White House adviser Steve Bannon, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump addresses the conference on Friday.
