A 6-year-old Connecticut girl who went missing after she was taken from the scene of a fatal stabbing early Friday at her home in Bridgeport has been found safe, officials said.
Cops issued an Amber Alert for little Aylin Sofia Hernandez at about 4:30 a.m. — and the alert was cancelled when the girl was found with her father, Oscar Hernandez, 39 in Pennsylvania hours later, State Police said.
Her father was arrested in Philipsburg, Pa., around 11 a.m. when a trooper spotted his car and tried to conduct a traffic stop. When Hernandez refused to pull over, other troopers joined the pursuit, according police. Suddenly, Hernandez rammed his car into a truck trailer before one of the troopers’ cars hit his vehicle, cops said.
Police took him took him into custody and brought him to a local hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries. Aylin was treated for minor injuries.
His arrest ended a five-and-a-half-hour search which began in Bridgeport and at one point focused on the Bronx, where someone had seen Hernandez’s car, the Hartford Courant reported.
Around 2:45 a.m., Bridgeport police responded to a Greenwood Street home and found the girl’s mother fatally stabbed and another woman injured — who is now in critical but stable condition and expected to live, according to the Courant.
Hernandez is considered a suspect in the crime.
Bridgeport Police Chief Armando Perez said during a press conference that it seems the stabbings occurred just inside a door of the home at the foot of the stairs, according to the Courant. The women were just walking inside after being out, he said. He believes alcohol played a role in the incident.
Charges against Hernandez are pending.
