The Secret Service has requested an additional $60 million to protect President Trump and his family, it was reported Wednesday.
The agency said it needs $26.8 million to cover the high cost of securing the Trump family and Trump Tower in Manhattan and $33 million to cover bills associated with “the president, vice president and other visiting heads of state,” according to the Washington Post, citing agency documents.
The Trump family’s lifestyle, including the president’s primary residence in Midtown, makes the cost of protecting them more expensive than previous presidents.
Yet funding for past presidents and others in the government are not disclosed by the government.
The first lady and the president’s youngest son both continue to live in Trump Tower, though the White House says they could be moving down to Washington after the school year ends.
The president also appears to enjoy traveling on weekends to his Palm Beach resort, Mar-a-Lago.
But the Secret Service may have to figure out how to do its job on the cheap.
The Washington Post said the White House Office of Management and Budget turned down the request for the extra cash.
