ALBANY — Mayor de Blasio continues to pay the price for his ill-fated attempt to wrest control of the State Senate from Republicans and his feud with Albany pols.
For the third year in a row, the legislature is giving him a one-year extension on control of the public schools.
He had requested a permanent extension, but didn’t bother lobbying on the issue, choosing instead to push his mansion tax proposal.
That went nowhere.
Gov. Cuomo proposed a three-year schools deal, but the GOP-controlled Senate said it was one year or nothing.
De Blasio tried to oust Senate Republicans in 2014 by funneling campaign contributions to their Democratic challengers — a move that spurred investigations into his fundraising practices.
No charges were brought, but the investigations dogged the mayor for more than a year.
