Facebook launches new tools to block revenge porn

Facebook is cracking down on repeat revenge porn.

The social media site is implementing new photo-matching technology to make sure users can’t reshare photos that have already been flagged as revenge porn.

Users who try to post the X-rated pics will get a message saying the post violates Facebook policies and they won’t be allowed to put it on the site, Facebook Messenger or Instagram.

In many cases, the person’s account will also be deactivated, Facebook’s Global Head of Safety Antigone Davis said in a blog post Wednesday.

Davis outlined the tools in place to flag revenge porn, including reporting the image using the “report link” on the photo.

The picture will be sent to “specially trained representatives” who will review the image and remove it if it violates Facebook standards.

The Cyber Civil Rights Initiative said 93 percent of revenge-porn victims suffer major emotional distress and 82 percent report significant impairment during their lives.
