The Nets are getting into the tennis business

Professional men’s tennis is back on Long Island. Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment announced Monday morning it has landed the former Memphis Open — a staple on the men’s tennis tour — and will bring it to the renovated Nassau Coliseum next February.

BSE also owns the Brooklyn Nets.

The yet-to-be-named event will be staged Feb. 10-18. It is the lone indoor ATP event held in the US.

The Memphis Open, won by American upstart Ryan Harrison this February, was one of the longest-running events on tour. GF Sports has run the Memphis event since 2015, but declining sponsorship led to this move.

“We are proud to partner with Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment to bring the historic Memphis Open to the new Coliseum,” said Gary Fuhrman, Managing Partner at GF Capital and Board Member of GF Sports. “The spotlight of New York will help to elevate this important tournament and this move is part of GF Sports’ larger goal of re-establishing American tennis as a global powerhouse within the sport.”

Long Island was home to the Hamlet Cup in Commack until 2005.
