Canned Us Weekly employees left in limbo

More than a month after 40 people at Us Weekly were told they’d be out of a job once the deal with American Media Inc. was finalized, they continue to work on the celebrity weekly.

David Pecker, the CEO of AMI, is waiting to hear if federal antitrust regulators will approve the $100 million purchase of the No. 2 celebrity weekly — announced on March 15 — from Jann Wenner’s Wenner Media.

AMI, owner of the National Enquirer, already publishes the No. 3 celebrity weekly, Star Magazine.

Initially, the word was the feds were going to approve it by April 14. Now the new target date is said to be April 24, sources report.
