Emotional 911 calls from frightened Cleveland residents who found the 74-year-old Facebook murder victim emerged Tuesday — painting a chilling picture of what happened in the aftermath of the cold blooded killing.
“He’s dead, oh my God,” cried one distraught woman.
“He’s laying there —Oh, Lord have mercy,” she said, moments after walking out her front door and spotting Robert Godwin Sr.’s body.
The frantic audio tapes were released by ABC News just hours before Facebook murder suspect Steve Stephens took his own life following a pursuit with police.
The 37-year-old claimed on Facebook Live that he shot and killed Godwin, 74, for no reason at all — other than to get back at his ex-girlfriend.
“He’s dead,” another caller can be heard saying, as he clutches his young son inside his house.
“It’s an old man… He’s been shot in the head,” he adds.
Those who called all told dispatchers that the man they saw on the ground appeared to have been shot in the head.
A vigil was reportedly held on Monday night for Godwin, in which dozens of family, friends and community members brought flowers and paid tribute to the great-grandfather.
