Lots of people take their coffee black. But some — goths, Instagrammers — take it a step further.
Round K Cafe, a Korean-inspired coffee shop on the Lower East Side, just debuted its striking (if ominous-looking) Matte Black Latte. The pitch-black drink is made with Dutch processed cocoa powder, almond milk, espresso and organic coconut ash (burnt remains of coconut shells, touted for potential detoxing benefits).

The drink may be dark, but it might make your smile pearly white. The cafe’s owner, Ockhyeon “Ock” Byeon, told The Post via e-mail that he was “most interested in the teeth-whitening aspect of coconut ash, because many coffee lovers worry about teeth [dis]coloring caused by coffee intake.”
This isn’t Ock’s first foray into bizarre beverages: Previous brainstorms include a wasabi latte and an egg cappuccino, which is coffee plus an egg yolk and whipped cream — a descendant of a similar drink served in Korean coffee shops in the 1950s.
