Two daring cops saved a helpless baby deer stranded on the side of a cliff near the George Washington Bridge in a wild, first-of-its-kind rescue.
Port Authority Police Officer Andrew Vignapiano and his partner, Kevin Leonard, were patrolling the bridge on foot at around 10:30 a.m. Friday when they heard the heartbreaking cries of a fawn that had been separated from its mother, according to the PAPD.
Vignapiano hooked himself to a safety line and hoofed it down the side of the rocky southern face of Palisades Cliffs — while his partner secured the line from above, police said.
The brave cop grabbed the fawn and climbed back up with the animal under one arm.
The fawn and its mom were reunited at the scene, and nobody was injured, according to police.
It’s the first time Port Authority Police have ever rescued a deer, a source said Friday.
In 2011, Officer Leonard also helped save a 29-year-old pregnant Queens woman, who went into labor outside of the Lincoln Tunnel during morning commuting hours.
