Be daring this season. Swap black liner and diamond studs for color, and lots of it. Here are some top summer beauty trends and the statement earrings to match them.
Copper eyes
Go metallic for nighttime, swapping bright colors for bronze cheeks and copper eyes.
Start by swiping highlighter onto cheekbones and bronzer just below to sculpt — the new BECCA X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette ($46 at Sephora.com) has both. Line eyes with a dark pencil — makeup artist Theo Kogan used Charlotte Tilbury Rock ’n’ Kohl liner ($27 at CharlotteTilbury.com) — covering both the top and bottom waterline and between lashes.
On lids, says Kogan, layering is key. Start with a cream shadow — she used RMS Beauty Eye Polish in “Solar” ($28 at Sephora.com) — blended from lashes to brow bone. Tap both metallic-bronze and metallic-gold powder shadows (options available in Urban Decay’s Naked2 Eyeshadow Palette, $54 at sephora.com) on top, from lash line to crease. Finish with a swipe of bronzer on the inner corners of the eyes and center of the eyelid for extra dimension. Top it all off with a swipe of Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Big Shot Mascara in “Very Black” ($8.49 at Ulta.com).
Graphic eyeliner
Nod — or wink — to the ’60s with mod eyes in blue, summer’s trendiest eye color.
Starting from the top edge of your outer eye, flick a liquid liner — Kogan used L’Oreal Paris Infallible Long Lasting Liquid Eyeliner Paint in “Vivid Aqua” ($9.99 at LorealParisUSA.com) — curving up and out at a 45-degree angle, stopping halfway between eye and eyebrow. Lift the liner and bring it to the inner corner of your eye, just above the start of your eyelid crease. Draw an arc above the crease, connecting it with the original line at the outer edge of your eye. Repeat on the other eye, then clean up both with a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover.
If you’re new to the look, Kogan suggests practicing on the back of your hand first to get a feel for the eyeliner. Or, cut a piece of paper into your desired shape and trace for a foolproof straight line.
Fruity lip

Take a bite out of summer with bright, matte lips.
Prep your pout with a lip mask, such as KNC Beauty’s collagen-infused lip mask ($5 at UrbanOutfitters.com), to head off any flaking. Skip lip liner and reach straight for a liquid lipstick in a fruity hue — Kogan used bareMinerals Matte Liquid Lipcolor in “Juicy” ($18 at BareMinerals.com).
“If you have golden or yellow undertones to your skin and you tan or bronze easily, I would suggest going for more orange-y reds and bright corals,” says Kogan. “If you have cooler undertones, meaning your veins look blue, you’ll likely look best in blue-toned reds, pinks or purples.”
Swipe on once, blot, and reapply for full coverage. Don’t worry about staying in the lines — blurring the edges looks modern and can help plump lips.
Bright shadow
Bye bye, boring shadows. Make a splash with a burst of yellow just above the lash line.
Begin with a layer of creamy white shadow, such as Sephora Colorful Shadow & Liner in “Let It Snow” ($14 at Sephora.com), to make colors pop against any skin tone. Use an eye-shadow brush to apply two coats of a bright powder eye shadow — try MAC Pigment in “Rock-It Yellow” ($22 at MACCosmetics.com) — from your lashes to your lid’s natural crease. Use the top of the brush to tap on color and press it into place, cleaning up any spillage with a wet cotton swab.
Stained blush

Let’s face it: Your cheeks are bound to flush as temps rise this summer. Embrace and enhance the glow with a creamy pink blush.
Start with an even base, covering any redness on your face with a creamy concealer — try NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer ($30 at NarsCosmetics.com). Then, pat a pink stain such as Glossier Cloud Paint in “Puff” ($18 at Glossier.com) into the apples of your cheeks with fingers, rather than a brush. Blend color out toward cheekbones, leaving an inch of unblushed skin around the eyes and nose. “If you blend too much, simply add more to the apples of the cheeks,” says Kogan.
Top lips with a gloss — try Lancome Juicy Shaker in “Boom Meringue” ($22 at Lancome-USA.com) — and brush brows for extra polish.
