Cops suspended after kicking, dragging innocent crash victim
Four Jersey City cops involved in an incident in which an innocent man engulfed in flames was roughed up after a car chase reportedly were suspended without pay Tuesday.
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said the suspensions were due to violation of procedure during pursuits and not the kicking and dragging seen on video, according to the Jersey Journal.
A separate investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is scrutinizing the actions taken on the video, the mayor added.
“This is the first step for all the officers involved to be held accountable for their actions,” Fulop said.
The video of the June 4 incident was taken after a high-speed crash as the victim, covered in flames, rolled on the ground to subdue the fire.
Police could be seen kicking him in the head and dragging him into the street.
