Perhaps the biggest sign that the 76ers’ tank is over is that a reputable free agent wants in.
Sharp-shooter J.J. Redick reached an agreement with Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon on a one-year, $23 million deal, according to ESPN.
Redick actually broke the news himself, announcing his pick by borrowing the team’s (and Joel Embiid’s) favorite slogan.
Redick, who was a Nets target, chose a team with a promising if injury-concerned core of Embiid, 2016 No. 1 pick Ben Simmons and 2017 No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz. According to The Post’s Brian Lewis, the Nets were willing to give Redick a second year, but Redick chose to bet on himself — and on The Process.
A team stacked with youth and talent now adds a proven commodity. Redick, 33, is one of the best shooters in the league, knocking down 42.9 percent of his 3s last year — which was down from a 47.5 percent clip the year prior. He averaged 15 points per game last season with the Clippers, and is leaving that sinking ship for one on the rise.
Along with Embiid’s post work, Simmons’ passing and court vision and Fultz’s explosiveness comes Redick’s launching, another dimension to a 76ers squad that might be the NBA’s most interesting.
