The Tom Brady carousel of concussion comments continues.
Two months after Gisele Bündchen alleged the Patriots quarterback sustained a concussion during the 2016 season, ESPN’s Kevin Negandhi questioned Brady about how much he converses with his supermodel spouse about his injuries during an interview on “E:60,” which aired Sunday.
“She’s there every day. I mean, we go to bed in the same bed every night, so I think she knows when I’m sore, she knows when I’m tired, she knows when I get hit,” Brady said, via CBS Sports. “We drive home together [from games]. But, she also knows how well I take care of myself. She’s a very concerned wife and very loving.”
Though Brady, 39, provided insight into his eight-year marriage with Bündchen, the Super Bowl champ refrained from using the word “concussion” in his remarks.
Bündchen, 36, raised eyebrows in May during an appearance on “CBS This Morning,” claiming Brady suffered a head injury last year at some point during the Patriots’ Super Bowl run.
“He had a concussion last year,” the Brazilian bombshell told Charlie Rose. “He had pretty much concussions every, I mean we don’t talk about, but he does have concussions. I don’t think it’s a healthy thing for a body to go through that kind of aggression all the time. That can’t be healthy for you.”
Brady was only listed on New England’s injury reports for knee and thigh injuries last season. The NFL looked into the matter and stated it couldn’t corroborate Bündchen’s charge.
“We have reviewed all reports relating to Tom Brady from the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultants and certified trainer spotters who worked at Patriots’ home and away 2016 games as well as club injury reports that were sent to the league office,” the league said in a statement. “There are no records that indicate that Mr. Brady suffered a head injury or concussion, or exhibited or complained of concussion symptoms.”
Brady’s agent, Don Yee, later issued a carefully constructed statement on behalf of the quarterback’s health.
“Tom was not diagnosed with a concussion last year,” Yee told ESPN. “Many of the protocols and safeguards still are evolving, and it’s obviously a good thing the organization and everyone close to him is vigilant and always looking out for his health.”
The Patriots are set to report to training camp on July 27.
