Box truck slams into 99 cent store, injures 2
A delivery box truck packed with meat goods lost control and went crashing into a 99 cent store in Brooklyn on Thursday, hospitalizing two people, police said.
The white truck jumped the curb and struck the storefront façade of “99 Cent Utica” on Utica Avenue between Church Avenue and Linden Boulevard in East Flatbush at around 11:27 a.m., cops and witnesses said.
“I was standing here in front and the delivery truck hit one car and he wanted the taxi to move and he tried to turn around it,” said store clerk Kassim Ali, 56.
“But instead of making a slow turn, he hit the gas and came over the curb, right into my store. I jumped out of the way. God saved me, it was so close,” Ali said.
The driver of the truck remained on the scene.
Two people were taken to Kings County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
It was not immediately clear what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
