Giants lineman accused of grabbing girlfriend by neck, throwing her

Michael Bowie, an offensive lineman with virtually no chance to make the final roster, will not travel with the Giants to Cleveland for Monday night’s preseason game after being charged with domestic assault and battery and two counts of malicious injury to property.

The alleged incidents happened in Oklahoma this summer. According to the Tulsa World, there is a warrant out for Bowie’s arrest on bonds totaling $17,000.

“We were made aware of the Michael Bowie situation Saturday afternoon,” the Giants said in a statement. “We immediately notified NFL security. Michael will not make the trip for our game in Cleveland as we gather more information on this issue.”

Bowie, 25, is a 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive tackle listed third on the depth chart. The Tulsa, Okla., native went to Northeastern State and last appeared in the NFL in 2013, playing nine games for the Seahawks.

Reports in the Tulsa World indicate there was a fight between Bowie and his girlfriend over finances, and when the girlfriend made a remark about Bowie’s mother, the argument became physical. The newspaper report states “police determined Bowie grabbed his girlfriend by the neck during the argument and threw her on the ground, then broke two TVs and punched a hole in her wall.”

The incident allegedly took place in Bixby, Okla.
