Steve Bannon is the Captain Jack Sparrow of the right-wing political seas — and his return to the helm of Breitbart News has his supporters hoisting the black sail.
“We’ve been a pirate ship without a captain for a year,” Breitbart Washington editor Matthew Boyle said on the website’s Saturday radio show. “We’re thrilled to have our captain back.”
President Trump, who had been silent about the ouster of a strategist with strong ties to the president’s core populist supporters, blew Bannon a Twitter kiss Saturday morning.
“I want to thank Steve Bannon for his service,” Trump tweeted. “He came to the campaign during my run against Crooked Hillary Clinton – it was great! Thanks S.”
Bannon has already returned to work at Breitbart News, which he intends to use as his battlefield to carry on a “war for Trump,” he said Friday.
He may try to leverage his increased visibility to launch a TV news network, according to a report on the Axios website.
Trump signaled his approval of Bannon’s sudden career shift.
“Steve Bannon will be a tough and smart new voice at @BreitbartNews … maybe even better than ever before,” the president tweeted Saturday afternoon. “Fake News needs the competition!”
