Trump thanks ‘tough’ cops at Boston ‘free speech’ rally

President Trump gave kudos to “tough” Boston cops Saturday for tamping down potential violence between conservative activists and counter-protesters at a tense “free speech” rally.

“Great job by all law enforcement officers and Boston Mayor,” Trump tweeted, singling out Mayor Marty Walsh.

“Looks like many anti-police agitators in Boston,” the president tweeted. “Police are looking tough and smart! Thank you.”

Less than two hours earlier, Trump had used the same two superlatives to praise Steve Bannon, who stepped down as chief White House advisor on Friday.

“Steve Bannon will be a tough and smart new voice at @BreitbartNews,” he tweeted. “Maybe even better than ever before. Fake News needs the competition!”

Conservative activists disbanded from Boston Common Saturday afternoon with only minor scuffling between themselves and counter-protesters, with some 500 riot-gear-clad police stepping in to separate the sides. Police said 18 people were arrested.
