Odell Beckham could miss the Giants’ season opener in Dallas with an ankle injury sustained during Monday night’s preseason game against Cleveland, sources tell ESPN.
The fourth-year receiver, who left the game after getting hit by Browns second-year defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun, underwent an MRI exam Tuesday confirming a sprained ankle, but an insider claims to ESPN it’s “not out of the question he could miss a week or two of the regular season.” A separate source alleged Beckham, 24, felt “very sore” Tuesday.
Coach Ben McAdoo would only say on Tuesday that they’d see “how [Beckham] responds to treatment.”
Following the Giants’ 10-6 loss, Beckham’s teammates chastised Boddy-Calhoun’s play.
“I’m gonna say it just like this, I couldn’t have a teammate next to me playing that way,” said safety Landon Collins. “I can’t condone it. It’s nothing I seek. He had the opportunity to go out and make a different route. That’s how I feel about it.”
“The hit, it looked unorthodox, if that makes any sense,’’ safety Nat Berhe shared. “That’s all I’m gonna say about that. There’s a target area you shoot for. I personally never go that low, we do have families and kids and stuff like that. I don’t know. Hopefully the guy makes a better decision the next time.’’
The Giants kick off the regular season against the Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 10.
