A Tennessee teen was arrested for shooting a pregnant girl — killing her and the unborn child, police said.
Colton Perryman, 18, was booked on second-degree murder charges in the death of 16-year-old Samantha “Stormy” Carter, news station WKRN reported. He also faces charges for attempted murder and tampering with evidence.
Carter was 22 weeks pregnant when she was fatally shot Monday at the Richland Inn in Pulaski, according to news station WSMV.
The expecting mom was rushed to a local hospital where she and the baby girl later died.
Police have not released a motive for the murder.
It’s unclear who the father of the baby was, but Perryman’s mom commented on Carter’s ultrasound photos on Facebook and tagged her son in posts about baby clothes.
Carter, who was a student at Loretto High School, planned to name the baby Scarlet Danielle.
“I said goodbye to my precious granddaughter Scarlet Danielle this morning,” her mom Renée Swider Carter wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. “She was beautiful and perfect.”
Less than 24 hours later, her mom took to social media again to share news of the 16-year-old’s death.
“Fly high and be at peace,” the mom wrote. “Kiss sweet Scarlet for me. I love y’all so much.”
