At least three people – including two law enforcement officers – have died in Florida from the impact of Hurricane Irma, official said on Sunday.
The first storm-related fatality could be traced to the Keys city of Marathon when the driver of a pickup truck – carrying an emergency generator – lost control, crashed and wrapped around a tree on Saturday, Monroe County authorities told ABC News.
Two law enforcement officers were killed n a head-in crash in Hardee County, southeast of Tampa, authorities said Sunday.
A Hardee County Sheriff’s deputy was going home from her shift and a state corrections officer was starting his workday when they collided, state officials said.
Irma’s wind and rains might have had a role in that fatal crash, authorities said.
The Florida death tolls adds to the least 25 people who earlier lost their lives in the Caribbean, where Irma wreaked havoc before reaching Florida.
