OAKLAND – Christian Hackenberg is back in street clothes.
The second-year Jets quarterback will be inactive for Sunday’s game with the Raiders. Bryce Petty will be the team’s backup quarterback.
Hackenberg was the backup last week in Buffalo, but that was due to Petty not being over a left knee sprain. Now that he is healthy, Hackenberg is back to being third on the depth chart. He was active for just one game last season.
It is a damning statement on Hackenberg that he is not good enough to be the backup quarterback in his second season. Petty clearly outplayed him in the preseason, though, so the move is justified.
Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley is active for the game after being inactive last week.
The rest of the inactives are: LB Bruce Carter, S Rontez Miles, CB Derrick Jones, C Jonotthan Harrison, TE Eric Tomlinson and TE Jordan Leggett.
