Preet Bharara joining CNN as a senior legal analyst
Preet Bharara, the Manhattan US attorney fired by President Trump, is joining CNN as a senior legal analyst, Politico reported.
Known as the “Sheriff of Wall Street,” Bharara has said Trump fired him in March after first telling him shortly after the election that he wanted him to remain in the federal prosecutor’s post.
Since his dismissal, Bharara has become something of a media juggernaut, launching a Twitter account that has 440,000 followers and a podcast called “Stay Tuned with Preet.”
On the podcast’s first episode Wednesday, Bharara said he’s still not sure what led the president to fire him, but that he’s sure that if he had stayed, Trump would have asked him “to do something inappropriate.”
“Had I not been fired, and had Donald Trump continued to cultivate a direct personal relationship with me, it’s my strong belief at some point, given the history, the president of the United States would’ve asked me to do something inappropriate,” he said. “And I would’ve resigned then. I don’t know for a fact, but that’s my strong belief.”
