Cops indicted for kicking, dragging innocent crash victim
Four New Jersey cops have been indicted over a botched pursuit that ended with an innocent bystander being kicked and dragged by officers as he was engulfed in flames, officials announced Thursday.
The disturbing June 4 incident, which was captured on cell phone video, shows victim Miguel Feliz, 28, escaping from a fiery car wreck as the Jersey City officers mistakenly moved in on him with their guns drawn, beating him before dragging him away from the scene.
The officers were initially trying to stop another motorist, Leo Pinkston, 48, near Ocean and Cator avenues in Jersey City when Pinkston fled and was involved in two crashes, including the one that involved Feliz.
During the pursuit, the officers fired off multiple shots at the suspect, who wound up crashing into a utility pole several blocks away, causing a fire and injuring Feliz.
Pinkston was arrested charged with aggravated assault.
The Jersey City Police Department officers involved, Lieutenant Keith Ludwig, MD Khan, Eric Kosinski, and Francisco Rodriguez were indicted Thursday by a grand jury on charges including aggravated assault and official misconduct, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Khan and Kosinski both face attempted murder charges
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said in a tweet Thursday in reference to the indictment: “Our admin at the time acted quickly/properly. The public trust is essential + we wouldn’t/didn’t tolerate this sort of conduct.”
Feliz, a father, was hospitalized following the incident.
At the time, his brother, Ramon Feliz, called the incident “outrageous” to The Post
