A car jettisoned off a pier in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, according to witnesses and cops.
The car, which one witness described as a speeding black sedan, raced for 150 feet down the 69th Street pier before launching through one of six metal stanchions, negotiating a maze of tables, and a 9/11 monument.
One witness, who was fishing at the end of the pier at the time of initial impact describe it has happening in a matter of seconds.
“Black car, maybe BMW… it was going fast, very fast – maybe 60-70mph. It was maybe ten seconds, then it [went] in.”
Fire department divers were in the water of the Narrows shortly after 1 a.m., but recovered no occupants.
NYPD Harbor units remained on scene to continue the search – the vehicle was found drifting towards the Verrazano Bridge by Harbor units.
