Hurricane-ravaged Turks and Caicos is back in business

Turks and Caicos, battered by this season’s Atlantic hurricanes, is back in business for the holiday season.

The Seventh Annual Caribbean Food and Wine Festival took place as planned last weekend in Providenciales, its most populous island — with most hotels open for business, including The Shore Club Turks and Caicos, The Palms Turks and Caicos and Grace Bay Club, where the festival was founded.

The festival, which sells out each year, is also raising funds for Turks and Caicos educational institutions hit by the hurricanes with grants for rebuilding.

“One of the best ways to help the island is through tourism,” said Karen Whitt, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for the Hartling Group, which owns and manages The Sands, The Palms and The Shore Club.
