A 5-year-old girl suffered lead poisoning from peeling paint in her NYCHA apartment at least three years ago, continues to show symptoms — and the agency is ignoring relocation requests, her dad said Thursday.
“NYCHA has done nothing. All we want them to do is transfer us, and they’ve done nothing,” said Frank Maynard, 38, little Leilani’s father.
The girl’s mother, Marisa Vargas, filed a pending negligence suit against NYCHA in 2014 over a routine checkup that showed that her daughter had a blood lead level of 22 micrograms per deciliter.
That’s more than four times the five micrograms the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers “elevated” in kids ages 1 though 5.
“She has problems following directions. She gets distracted easily. She gets frustrated quick,” Maynard said.
A Post reporter on Thursday saw large chips of paint missing from pipes inside the Pomonok Houses apartment in Flushing, Queens.
A separate federal class-action suit filed last month against NYCHA Chairwoman Shola Olatoye and Mayor de Blasio accuses them of “purposefully, recklessly, and with malice” not inspecting apartments for lead-paint hazards.
NYCHA did not respond to requests for comment.
