A Homeland Security official resigned on Thursday after a report revealed racially insensitive remarks he made in past radio interviews, The Post has learned.
Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke said in a statement that she has accepted the resignation of Rev. Jamie Johnson — who stated on a radio program that African Americans were “lazy” and “Muslims want to cut our heads off.”
CNN released a report earlier on Thursday that included comments Johnson made on “The Right Balance” program on Accent Radio Network.
“It’s an indictment of America’s black community that has turned America’s major cities into slums because of laziness, drug use and sexual promiscuity,” he said during a 2008 discussion.
Johnson also denied that Islam was a “religion of peace” claiming in a 2011 appearance that “Muslims want to cut our heads off.”
Johnson apologized about the comments in a statement to the network.
The spokesperson for Secretary Duke told The Post that she has accepted Johnson’s resignation.
“His comments made prior to joining the Department of Homeland Security clearly do not reflect the values of DHS and the administration,” spokesperson Tyler Q. Houlton said in a statement.
“The Department thanks him for his recent work assisting disaster victims and the interfaith community.”
