Steve Kerr is done with President Trump’s Twitter spat with LaVar Ball, with the Golden State coach saying we’d all be better if the outspoken pair would just pipe the heck down.
“Modern life,” Kerr said before the Warriors’ 118-111 win in Brooklyn. “Two people seeking attention and they’re both getting it. I’m sure both guys are really happy.
“It’d help if all of you stopped covering both of them. Is that possible? You could probably stop covering LaVar. I don’t think you could stop covering the president. It’d be nice for all of us if both of them would just be quiet. Wouldn’t that be great?”
After three UCLA players, including LiAngelo Ball, were detained in China while being investigated for shoplifting, a number of high-powered types worked behind the scenes on their behalf, including Trump and reportedly Joe Tsai, who recently reached a deal to buy 49 percent of the Nets with an option to purchase a controlling interest.
All three players took responsibility for their actions, apologized in a Wednesday press conference, and thanked Trump for his help. But after the senior Ball downplayed Trump’s role in getting the players home, the president tweeted Sunday that he “should have left them in jail!”
Trevor Booker left Sunday’s game with sprained left ankle. He told The Post he had initially hurt it during Friday’s win over Utah, then aggravated it early in Sunday’s loss.
“It’s just a little sore. It’s not too bad,” Booker said. “I rolled it last game, and then it was I think the first or second play I twisted it again, aggravated it. I guess we’ll just see how it feels [Monday].
“I really couldn’t make the moves that I usually do, so I decided just to rest it.”
Neither Booker nor coach Kenny Atkinson was willing to predict his availability for Wednesday in Cleveland.
“I’m not sure,” Booker said. “I’m just taking it day by day. So we’ll see.”
With Booker logging just over nine minutes, Jarrett Allen had six points on 3-of-4 shooting, three boards and a block in 12 minutes.
“He was really good, and defensively we feel completely comfortable with him out there,” Atkinson said.
Kerr said the mess Sean Marks inherited in Brooklyn might be the worst a general manager had ever stepped into in NBA history.
“Watching them the last year-and-a-half has been impressive in terms of the culture that’s being built,” Kerr said. “These guys play with great energy, passion, they’re playing fast. I’m impressed with what Sean Marks has done in terms of maybe having the worst hand to play with as a GM of anybody in the history of this league.
“I don’t know if I could find another example of a guy taking a job with a bad team with no draft picks.”
The Nets took a franchise record 48 3s Sunday, making 16, one shy of their season high.
