A man who murdered the mother of his child in The Bronx more than two decades ago was sentenced to 20 years to life Monday for the cold-case killing.
Michael Stewart fled to Jamaica after fatally gunning down gal pal Sophia Blair in September 1993 when she refused to run away with him, prosecutors said.
After arriving in the island nation, he then called the 22-year-old’s father to tell him his daughter was dead.
Their toddler son, Jamal, was left in the crib for more than 10 hours as Stewart skipped the country.
Stewart, whose prints were found at the scene, was picked up by cops in December 2016 after they got a tip he had returned to the US in 2014.
The now 58-year-old was slapped with the sentence by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Lester Adler following his conviction on second-degree murder charges last month.
“The defendant may have eluded justice for more than two decades but the prosecutors in my Office and dedicated NYPD detectives never forgot about this horrific case,” Bronx DA Darcel Clark said in a statement.
