Trump proposes contest for ‘fake news trophy’

President Trump began his post-holiday work week by resuming his bitter war on the news media — proposing a contest to determine which news outlet should win a “FAKE NEWS TROPHY!”

“We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me).

They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!” the commander-in-chief tweeted shortly after 9 a.m.

The president also singled out the MSNBC show “Morning Joe,” taking aim at one of his favorite targets for running a previously recorded episode on Friday in which co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brezinski talked about being “stuffed” after Thanksgiving.

Trump retweeted a post from his social media director Dan Scavino that read: “Fake News: Morning Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) Caught Pretending Pre-Taped Day After Thanksgiving Show Was Live,” and then added his own comment.

“The good news is that their ratings are terrible, nobody cares!” he wrote.

Trump himself was accused of promoting “fake news” over the weekend when he claimed on Twitter that Time magazine told him he would “probably” be named Person of the Year for the second consecutive time.

The magazine said in a statement that Trump was incorrect, and the episode gave fresh legs to the story of how he had large phony framed Time covers depicting him as “Man of the Year” hung in a number of his golf courses.

They were removed after Time complained.
