City Council member Jumaane Williams is gearing up to face Gov. Cuomo in a primary.
Williams, who is also running for Council Speaker, took his first official steps toward entering a Democratic primary against the governor in 2018 when he formed a campaign committee this week.
Williams is one of several Democrats who have discussed the possibility of taking on Cuomo.
Jumaane 4 NY was formed this week, according to Board of Elections records.
Former State Sen. Terry Gipson, of the Hudson Valley, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner and actress Cynthia Nixon have all indicated they may also try to gain the party’s nomination.
Though some opponents believe the governor is vulnerable on the left, he has $25.6 million in his war chest.
