People ‘cheated’ on their partners with these Netflix shows

Netflix is notoriously tight-lipped about its viewership numbers, but the streaming giant has recently released some juicy information about the way people watch its shows. In its roundup of 2017’s most-binged shows, it included the top 10 shows that inspired people to “cheat” and watch ahead of their partners. So if you were watching “Narcos” with your significant other and suspected he or she of jumping ahead on the nights you worked late, you have something else to argue about during the holidays! Crime shows, in fact, led the top 10 in cheating. Here they are:

1. “Narcos”

The drama, now three seasons and counting, chronicles the Colombian drug trade and the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar. It’s filled with pulse-pounding confrontations between cartels and the DEA, so it’s no surprise viewers can’t wait to jump to the next chapter without their partners.

2. “13 Reasons Why”

The surprise hit follows the events leading up to a teen’s suicide and its impact on her friends and classmates. Although the heavy subject matter makes it seem like an odd choice as a binge show, the events unfold as a mystery.

3. “Stranger Things”

The story of friendship and spooky dimensional rifts in 1980s small-town Indiana continues to be one of the platform’s most popular shows, with a reported 16 million viewers for its second season. Not only are its characters constantly in peril, but viewers are tempted to cheat just to keep up with the water cooler conversation at work.

4. “Orange Is the New Black”

The women’s prison series, which has just received a Screen Actors Guild nomination for best comedy series ensemble, has been going strong since 2013. Its fifth and most recent season took place over an adrenaline-fueled three days.

5. “Sense8”

The Wachowskis’ mind-bending sci-fi show was axed by Netflix after two seasons, but popular demand is bringing it back for one final act. It’s filled with conspiracies and revelations about its core character’s powers, and its second season was packed with cliffhangers.

“Black Mirror”

6. “Black Mirror”

“Black Mirror” is an interesting show to “cheat” on, since it’s a modern-day “Twilight Zone” with stand-alone episodes. But evidently people who heard all their friends raving about the award-winning episode “San Junipero” couldn’t wait for their partners to dive in with them.

7. “Marvel’s the Defenders”

In “The Defenders,” characters from previous Netflix Marvel shows — Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Matt Murdock and Danny Rand — unite against a common enemy. If your partner was working late, but you just had to see how Jessica Jones and Danny Rand would clash, this is a logical cheat show.

8. “Marvel’s Iron Fist”

In “Iron Fist,” former New York trust-fund kid Danny Rand returns home with mysterious powers after he’s presumed dead for 15 years. The show had a notoriously lukewarm reception, so perhaps some of the skipping ahead here wasn’t due to cheating so much as simple fast-forwarding.

9. “Ozark”

This crime drama about a money-laundering family in the Ozarks isn’t only a vehicle for its star, the usually comedic Jason Bateman, it’s also packed with twists and turns.

10. “Mindhunter”

This 1970s-set crime drama revolves around serial killers and the early days of the FBI’s criminal profiling. It seems a lot of people couldn’t wait for their partners to find out which killer would pop up next.
