Maya Thurman-Hawke, the daughter of actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, has entered the spotlight — and, wow, does she look like her mom.
The 19-year-old, who grew up in New York City and Woodstock, NY, will play Jo March in the BBC’s new adaptation of “Little Women,” based on Louisa May Alcott’s beloved American novel about four New England sisters. The first of the three-part series airs Dec. 26.
Fans who flocked to the series’ London screening were stunned by Thurman-Hawke’s resemblance to her “Kill Bill” star mom, whom she credits with helping her break into the family business: “I have a wonderful, supportive relationship with my family. I get lots of advice from them about all kinds of things,” she told Harper’s Bazaar at the screening, adding that her father also visited her on the Ireland set.
Thurman-Hawke, who dabbled in modeling as a teen and has been studying acting at Juilliard, said she felt lucky to nab the role of plucky Jo, with whom she always identified as a girl.
“I felt a very intimate connection to her,” she told the magazine. “Only after, when I realized that everyone else thinks that they are Jo, too, did I start to feel the weight of the world on my shoulders.”
