North Korea said the popularity of a new tell-all book that paints the White House as incompetent “foretells Trump’s political demise.”
Sales of the best-selling “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” reflect “rapidly surging anti-Trump sentiments in the international community,” an article in North Korean newspaper Rodong Sinmun said, the Associated Press reported. “The anti-Trump book is sweeping all over the world so Trump is being massively humiliated worldwide.”
Its popularity “foretells Trump’s political demise,” the article concluded.
“Voices calling for the impeachment of Trump are on the rise not only in the United States but also abroad,” the newspaper said. “Since the book was published, it has triggered a debate on whether Trump is qualified to be president, even in Western Europe.”
President Trump has called Michael Wolff’s tumultuous tome — which, according to the Wall Street Journal, had sold more than a million copies by late Monday — a “work of fiction.
On Wednesday, he suggested strengthening libel laws “so that when somebody says something that is false and defamatory about someone, that person will have meaningful recourse in our courts.”
Trump’s lawyers last week sent a cease-and-desist letter to the book’s publishers, but Henry Holt & Co. responded by moving publication up four days, releasing “Fire and Fury” last Friday.
The article comes as North Korea renewed discussions with South Korea after a two-year pause and Trump said he would be open to talks “at the appropriate time, under the right circumstances,” the White House said.
Wolff’s book — which sold 29,000 copies in the first two days of its release, according to NPD Book Scan — tops the best-seller list on Amazon and is set to debut on the top of the New York Times’ list when it comes out next week.
