A former member of the junior US gymnastics team says serial pedophile and disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar once asked if he could “videotape” himself doing a procedure on her.
Kamerin Moore, who was on the 2008-2009 Junior US National Team, said Monday at a sentencing hearing for Nassar that she initially was not going to come and make a statement in court.
“I didn’t want this child I’m carrying to be in the same room with a child molester,” a pregnant Moore said during her victim impact statement.
Moore explained that she had her first major injury at the age of 10, marking the start of her connection to Nassar, who she said used to allow her to “come to [his] house late at night” or “sneak in the back door” at Michigan State University for treatment.
“You called me your guinea pig because you would always try out your new techniques on me,” Moore said as Nassar sat at the defense table.
“I vividly remember the first time. I remember you telling me I had to wear either my leotard or shorts. I remember how absolutely mortified I was when you asked me if I started my period yet because you couldn’t do the treatment if I had a tampon in,” she said.
Moore added: “I’m mad at myself when I think about every time you put your fingers inside of me and I continued to trust you no matter how disgusted and embarrassed I was.”
She said that when she and Nassar were once alone in the former physician’s treatment room at Michigan State University, “You had the audacity to ask me if you could video yourself doing the treatment on me.”
Moore claimed that her brother — who is now a gymnast at University of Michigan — became a victim of Nassar when he was treated by Nassar in his basement for a shoulder injury.
“You pulled his pants slightly down to expose him in front of one of your other female victims … and you put acupuncture needles near his genitals,” she said. “I’m not sure how my brother’s shoulder is connected to his balls.”
She declared: “My whole family was fooled by you, but I know now who you really are — a child molester and a master manipulator … you will never mean anything to anyone for the rest of your entire life. Never.”
Moore said Nassar especially took advantage of her following her father’s death when she was only 12.
“You molested a little girl who had just lost her father,” Moore said. “I can’t believe you used my father’s death to manipulate the trust I put in you.”
As of Monday, Moore was among 100 victims to come forward and relive their harrowing memories of the suffering they endured at the hands of Nassar in Ingham County Circuit Court.
Judge Rosemarie Aquilina — who is overseeing the case — called Moore “extraordinarily strong.”
“You are going to raise a strong child,” the judge said. “Your voice is a pillar of strength for your child.”
