New York City Transit President Andy Byford helmed his first committee meeting on Monday, and vowed to do all he can to improve service on the beleaguered subways and buses.
Byford, who previously worked for the Toronto subway system and London Underground, said he is putting together a “comprehensive corporate plan” that will be ready in a few months.
“I do not intend to disappoint,” he told the board and spectators.
Byford’s tenure starts at a time when delays on the subway system are at a record high and riders are fleeing the buses because of the amount of time it takes them to get around the city.
A string of speakers signed up to welcome Byford to the MTA, including a woman who presented him with a map with dozens of red marks indicating a subway station that has problems.
