A Bronx cop thought he was done for the day when he ended his shift and left the 46th Precinct on Friday night — only to end up helping to nab a trio of violent crooks on his way home.
Neighborhood Coordination Officer Thomas Accomando, 33, was headed home from his Fordham Heights precinct around 9 p.m. when he spotted a man being attacked outside Bergen Triangle park around 181st Street and Anthony Avenue.
“I saw two individuals,” he recalled Monday. “One individual was repeatedly punching the other individual’s face and stomach area.”
The vicious beat-down continued even when the 22-year-old victim fell to the ground, Accomando said.
The seven-year NYPD veteran got out of his car, spooking the attackers, who ran off, leaving their victim lying on the sidewalk.
“[The injured man] was telling me that he was robbed by some individuals,” the cop said, adding that the victim recalled three guys mugging him. “They jumped him in the park.”
Accomando said he soon spotted the man’s attackers nearby and called his sergeant at the precinct to provide backup as he followed the men.
Two of the men were nabbed about four blocks later, at Jerome Avenue. The third suspect was collared as he tried to run away.
The victim was treated at a nearby hospital and released. He was able to positively identify his attackers — 22-year-old Stephen Stith, Antolin White, 33, and William White, 35, police said.
Police recovered the victim’s cell phone and an unspecified amount of his cash and charged each suspect with robbery.
