Bank’s error turns retired man into ‘billionaire’
BankUnited last week reported solid fourth quarter results — but for one customer, Robert McKinley, the bank’s computer system is a bit screwy, as The Post learned.
McKinley got the shock of his life when he opened his BankUnited checking account statement and learned he was a billionaire, nearly 10 times over. Well, almost.
The statement of the retired CEO of CardTrak/CardFlash showed he had a balance of $9.8 billion in his checking account.
It was clearly a mistake — and the bank was “flabbergasted” when he showed them the error, he said.
The mistake didn’t stop him from dreaming — of using the cash to help him buy the NFL’s Carolina Panthers and a Lamborghini “and the rest would have gone to helping humanity.”
BankUnited did not immediately respond for comment.
