Beloved Harlem bakery is moving to the Upper West Side

A Harlem neighborhood loss is a sweet gain for the Upper West Side.

After 22 years at 116th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, Make My Cake is closing its doors at the end of the month due to rising rents.

It is slated to reopen next month at 795 Columbus Ave., in a space that formerly housed Crumbs, the cupcake shop.

Make My Cake’s new store will be a 500-square-foot bakery that will serve everything from pies and cobblers to cakes, cupcakes and cookies.

It will have seating for eight.

Aliyyah Baylor, a third-generation baker and Make My Cake’s chief baking officer, is also a “Throwdown with Bobby Flay” winner for her German chocolate cake.

“Our sweet potato cheesecake is everything,” Baylor said, adding that the bakery is nut-free. “We are known for our banana pudding and red/white velvet cake as well, where one layer is red velvet and one layer is butter.”

The desserts combine southern baking from Alabama and Mississippi and the inspiration of family matriarch “Ma Smith” — with Harlem soul, Baylor says.

Loyal fans covet the home-style desserts, from classic red velvet cake to German chocolate cake.

The 2380 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. store will remain open.
